Things in the Big Brother house are never as they seem.
While a week ago, when Jessica was named the new HOH, it looked like a sure thing that Dick or Daniele was going home. Then, when Dick won the Power of Veto and removed Daniele from the block, it seemed like a no-brainer that Dick would get the boot. In fact, Dustin was so confident of this he volunteered himself to go up on the block.
Well, whaddaya know -- now it seems like Dustin's plan may backfire on him and he will be the 6th houseguest eliminated this year. It's certainly not a done-deal, but it is looking more and more likely.
Apparently, Eric and Jessica have decided that it may be in their best interests to join forces with Dick and Daniele, and try to ride that foursome all the way to the Final 4. I'm not entirely sure what precipitated this turnaround, but I have a hunch it may have something to do with the way America has instructed Eric to vote. If Eric was told to evict Dustin, perhaps he decided to change tactics, bringing Jessica along with him, in an effort to "earn America's respect." Or, in other words, he is sick of working against America, and decided if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
If this does happen, the sh*t is gonna hit the fan tonight -- I can't wait to see what Jameka and Amber's responses will be.
It's certainly never dull in the Big Brother house!

Big Brother's Nick Unveils a New Hair-Don't

While he has caused quite a stir this season with comments that have led viewers to wonder about his sexuality, Big Brother contestant Nick Starcevic is sure to create some more buzz with the revelation of his...mohawk??
Yes, the former football player has a new 'do, although it might more accurate be referred to as a "hair don't!"
What are your thoughts on Nick's new, um, look?

There's No Keeping Big Brother's Dick in a Box

Forgive the title of this post -- I couldn't help myself.
Yes, Evel Dick managed to avoid elimination last night, even after a last-minute attempt by Kail to sway the house against him, meaning the entertaining (as well as loud and obnoxious) Joe was the second houseguest to be eliminated. I'll miss Joe's antics a bit, but the sooner we can get rid of the "sleeping with the enemy" twist, the better, as Big Brother is always most enjoyable when it's about the relationships between people in the house than it is when external influences are brought into play.
As for Kail's campaigning against Dick -- why? For someone who is so paranoid about the game, and is constantly worried about things she does coming back to bite her in the ass, why put herself on the line in a week when it seemed fairly obvious Joe was going to get the boot? For someone who fancies herself a brilliant businesswoman, Kail seems kind of dense to me.
Daniele, meanwhile, continues to surprise me. She's playing the game cautiously, and wisely, and if she can keep her father under control, she might go very far in this game. Now if she'd only eat a sandwich!
One thing is certain -- Daniele won't be on the block this week, now that Dick has become Head of Household. Yes, the hits keep on coming -- after Jen's reign of terror this week, it should be very interesting what a week with Dick in charge looks like. My guesses for who he will nominate -- Jen and Kail.
Other thoughts on last night's show:
-Dustin seems very level headed and smart -- I like him. Now if only he'd stop wearing those god-awful V-neck shirts!
-Was it really necessary to watch an interview with "the guy that got between Joe and Dustin"? It's not like he had much to add to the story, and the former boyfriends were entertaining enough on their own.
-Finally, was it just me, or was Julie Chen obsessed with Jen's unitard last night? Between the chat with the houseguests and the HOH competition, it must have come up half a dozen times. Please, don't give this girl any more attention -- she feeds off of it!

Is Big Brother's Jen Smarter Than She Looks?

Is Big Brother's Jen smarter than she looks?
Um, probably not.
I will say, however, that she didn't make bad choices as to who to nominate this week -- at least in terms of keeping herself in the game as long as possible. She and Evil Dick have rubbed each other the wrong way from the beginning, so that was kind of a no-brainer, and Daniele and she are clearly competing for the same spot in the house, so it makes sense Jen would want to get rid of her.
Having said that, and having given Jen just a wee bit of credit for ably looking out for her own self interests, I'm hoping both Daniele and Dick are able to save themselves, because their dynamic is one of the most interesting things about the house so far this season. I actually don't think Daniele is that much smarter than Jen, but based on her relationship with her father and her burgeoning flirtation with Nick, Daniele might not need intellect or strategy to wind up being a fascinating member of the house. I think it would be a shame if she got the boot this early. As for Evil, if nothing else his willingness to tell Jen what he really thinks about her makes him worth keeping around.
Back to Jen for a moment -- can I just say, the looks on the faces of the other houseguests when it was revealed that Jen had won Head of Household were priceless, and the drinking game that seems to have developed around whenever Jen says "I" is hysterical. And how about Photo Meltdown Part 2? This girl is a trainwreck!
A few other notes about last night's episode:
-Even though Eric was not successful in trying to convince Jen to nominate America's Choice Jessica, I am encouraged by the country's decision to want to get rid of the bleach-blonde airhead.
-Joe needs to tone it down a notch, or he is gonna find himself flung from this house so quick he won't know what hit him. Why bother trying to get rid of Dustin at this point? People seem to really like Dustin (including me!), so all he is doing is making himself look petty and foolish.
-If I hear Amber mention again that God put her on the block, in an attempt to "make her stronger," I'm gonna scream. Honey, God didn't put you on the block -- Kail did.
So, here's rooting for Daniele or Evil to win the veto this week, and take themselves off the block!

Carol Gets the Boot, and (Gasp!) Jen Wins HOH on Big Brother 8

Is it just me, or does Julie Chen now seem to get a little twinkle in her eye every time she says "But first." It's like she knows it will be on youtube within minutes. Ah Chen-bot, how we love you.
So, not much of a surprise, Carol gets the boot. I like that Evil Dick referred to Carol and, I'm assuming, Jessica and Jen as the "Princess Posse." Those three really are good for nothing, aren't they? I'd include Daniele in that group as well, but at least she's got some complicated stuff going on in terms of her relationship with her father, so we'll cut her some slack. Although, the girl needs to start eating stat -- she's wasting away.
No, not much of a shocker that it was Carol that got sent packing, although I'm a little surprised the houseguests don't see the emotional Andrea as more of a threat. It was entertaining to watch Carol struggle to articulate her feelings for Jessica, and then be totally shocked to hear the nasty things Jessica had to say about her. The look on her face as she watched the clips of Jessica's lovely comments was priceless.
No, the real shocker of the night was Jen winning HOH. Whaaaaaaaaat? This should certainly be an interesting week, as it's hard to read where Jen's head is at in this game. Will she target Nick, who embarrassed her by calling her out on her lie that he had tried to kiss her? Will she go for Jessica and Daniele, her competitors for the BB8 Bimbo title? Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, it was Jen who cast the lone vote to evict Andrea, which shows how out of touch she is with the rest of the house. Should be an interesting week...

Big Brother's Nick Reveals He Has a Top 5 List of Guys To Sleep With

What is Nick's deal? I'm just fascinated by this guy!
He flirts with Daniele. He flirts with Amber. He flirts with Carol. He flirts with Joe. He flirts with Dustin.
Anyone else noticing a pattern here? The guy's a bit of a flirt.
But it's not like we haven't seen flirts in the Big Brother house before. What makes Nick different than, say, Jase or Drew from seasons past, is that he is such an equal opportunity flirt -- both women and gay men get the "special" treatment from Nick. But, really, if that was all it was, there wouldn't be much to say.
No, what makes this so interesting is that, within five short days, he has provided so much fodder for speculation as to his sexuality. I mean, there is harmless flirting, and there is the way that Nick is behaving. He was dry humped by Joe, massaged by Dustin, denied kissing Jen...and now this.
Yes, the story continues with Nick revealing to Zach and Evil Dick that he has a list of the Top 5 guys that he would like to sleep with, and that Blade 2 actor Ryan Reynolds appears on that list. Zach and Dick then proceed to tease Nick mercilessly, at which point he backs down a little, perhaps realizing that his bisexual strategy isn't working on these two very heterosexual fellas.
Or is it just a strategy? Is Nick just playing the game, or is he really having some sort of sexual identity crisis?

Big Brother: Nick Plays, Amber Prays, and Daniele Wins the Veto

We're less than a week into this season of Big Brother, and I'm already hooked. God, I'm such a sucker for reality tv!
So much to discuss about last night's episode:
-Why, when Kail worked her ass off to get Head of Household this week, was she so content on being as inoffensive as possible in her nominations? If she was really that concerned about having a target on her back, she should've thrown the HOH competition like 80% of the rest of the house. And did she really need to trash everyone's stuff while she was looking for the veto? She's starting to bug me.
-But she's not bugging me nearly as much as Jen, who, let's face it, is completely ridiculous. Those shirts? The things that come out of her mouth? The fact that she straight-up lied about Nick having tried to kiss her? Get this girl out of here -- stat.
-Eric -- nice work on the sob story. I'm impressed.
-Daniele -- nice work on winning the veto. I'm impressed.
-Dustin -- what's up with the very low-cut V-neck shirts? I can't really handle them.
-How about Amber, praying to God to "do the right thing." Really, Amber? You think God is up there watching Big Brother, and that he's already decided what "the right thing" is? Despite the fact that she's a bit of a mess, I kinda love Amber. I always love the trainwreck.
-And then there's Nick, everyone's favorite player...and by "player" I mean "play-uh" more than "player." Catch my drift? I loved the montage of him flirting with every single girl in the house, but I must say I'm confused why CBS chose not to show (a) his hot tub confession of having performed oral sex on a guy (click here if you don't know what I'm talking about), or (b) his extended flirtations with Joe. Yes, there was a shot of Joe and Nick sitting at the veto competition with their legs and arms around one another, and yes, they showed Nick saying "or a boy -- question mark?" when Carol asked which girl he would end up with, but come on CBS! The blogosphere has been buzzing about this all week -- throw us a bone and acknowledge that we know what is happening!
My gut is telling me Carol (who keeps talking about fighting, but hasn't actually done any of it yet) will get the boot tomorrow night, but I guess we'll have to tune in and see. Can't wait!

What's Up With Big Brother's Nick?

Flirting is a strategy on Big Brother -- always has been, always will be. Guys flirt with girls, girls flirty with guys, and sometimes straight guys flirt with gay guys (to get votes, of course). But what's going on with Nick?
Less than a week into this season, Nick, whose bio describes him as a "single, former football player from Michigan," has made eyes at openly gay contestant Dustin, been caught spooning with Joe (picture above, courtesy of Towleroad), and admitted to "giving a blowjob to a guy" (view the youtube clip of this admission here). I'm all for fluid sexuality, but I have to wonder -- is this just a strategy, or will this story continue to evolve as the season goes on? Thoughts?

Big Brother 8, Episode 2: Crying Over a Photo
There was a moment during last night's Big Brother that perfectly illustrates why I love this show -- Jen sees her photograph on the contestants board, and starts hysterically crying.
Genius, people. Sheer genius.
Where else on television can a woman come unhinged over an arguably unflattering photo, and then at least 3 minutes of screen time is devoted to her reaction, along with the reactions of her housemates to her reaction? Only Big Brother, people, only Big Brother.
Some other thoughts on last night's episode:
-Kael took the easy, but smart, way out in nominating Carol and Amber, giving the excuse that they were the first team eliminated in the HOH competition. I don't quite understand why Kael tried so hard to get HOH, only to sort of wimp out on the nominations, but she's a "multi-business owner," so perhaps her logic is too advanced for me. If I was Amber, the only mother in the house besides Kael, I'd be pissed too.
-Daniele may wind up being the most compelling player in the house. Watching her navigate her game strategy with the emotions having her estranged father bring up is somewhat fascinating to watch.
-On the flip side, Jen and Jessica are in stiff competition with each other for dumbest/most annoying player in the house. Jen is literally good for nothing, and Jessica's voice is so high pitch, and some of her comments so off the wall, that I almost think she's acting.
-Yes, Joe is loud and annoying, but Joe is also funny. Really funny.
That's it for now...can't wait until tomorrow to see who wins the power of veto, and whether they use it early in the game!

Big Brother Episode 1: Back in the House
Big Brother is back! Better than ever? Well, that remains to be seen.
First off, Julie Chen -- where did you go? You are about 70% of the size you were the last time we saw you. I know your hubby Les Moonves makes some good cash -- can you get him to buy you a sandwich?
As for the contestants, is it just me, or do they seem even more hard-bodied and vapid than ever? I suppose this happens every year, but overall this seems like a pretty vacant bunch. I actually got excited when Kail showed up, if only to have a woman of some substance around, but she had to go and ruin that straight off with her "I would be devastated if my children where gay" speech. Sorry, Kail, I'm over you, despite the fact that you are a "multi-business owner." Amber and Jamiqua seem like they could be more than just pretty faces, but I think Jen, and her never-ending list of "occupations," probably takes the cake (in the first episode, at least) for just plain silliest. Janelle, I miss you!
And then there's Joe. Oh, Joe. Let's see, what do we know about Joe so far? That he's bitter, manipulative, destructive, and, oh yeah, that he had "the clap." Big Brother, where do you find these people?
I'm not sure how I feel about this "sleeping with the enemy" twist so far, but I can tell you that a $5 rivalry from 7th grade doesn't seem very fruitful for drama. An estranged father/daughter duo, however -- that could be interesting. And as for "American's Player"? Eric seems so insecure and dodgy I can't seem him lasting very long. But perhaps the directions America gives him will allow him to stay in the game.
Bottom line -- I'm hooked already. Sunday can't come soon enough!

Big Brother 8 Premieres Tonight

Yes, it's time for the guiltiest of all guilty pleasures to return -- Big Brother!
For years I resisted jumping on the Big Brother bandwagon -- I thought, perhaps, by holding out that I was maintaining some "purity" in my reality television watching. So much for that! Three seasons ago, with not much else on the summer schedule to excite me, I decided to tune in, and I've never looked back. It's so bad, but OH-SO good!
There are, of course, a couple of changes for this eighth season of the show. The producers, apparently, have chosen a contestant designated as "American's Player," whose most important decisions in the house will be made by the viewers. Executive producer Allison Grodner told the New York Daily News, "Your wish is his or her command. It's like being in the 'Big Brother' house from the comfort of your living room."
In addition, Grodner says, "Some of them [the cast] will find out that in the house there is either a rival/enemy or someone they have unfinished business with," she said. "In short, the last person they'd ever want to see walk through that door. And that will play out throughout the summer. How do they deal with that? Do they keep their friends close and enemies closer? Or will it be too much for them to handle?"
One other change for this season -- pay channel ShowToo will be broadcasting the "after-hours" salaciousness that occurs, from 12-3AM each evening. Expect nudity and bad language galore!
Should be an interesting season!
