Idol Producer Says Tonight's Results Are Far From Shocking

In an interview with TV Week, Nigel Lythgoe, the show's executive producer, says that tonight's results are far from shocking -- he wasn't shocked, he says, and he doesn't think the viewers will be shocked either. "I think people have decided now who they would like to see go through," Lythgoe says. "We've moved on and we're ready to go for the finale and I think they've decided, 'We want this person in our finale.'"

You can listen to the interview here.

So what does this mean?

In my oh-so humble opinion, it means that Melinda, Jordin, and Blake are all safe tonight. They have been the three front-runners for weeks now, and, as I wrote in my post Who is Going Home Tonight, these three should sail on into the Top 4.

I think it also means Chris is a goner -- of the six contestants remaining, his exit would definitely be the least surprising.

But who will join him on his walk out the door? I predicted LaKisha would get the boot, but after her strong performance last night, coupled with the fact that she has only been in the Bottom 3 once all season, would a Kiki ouster be considered more or less shocking than a Phil elimination, when Phil has found himself in the Bottom 3 more than he has found himself safe?

What do you guys think -- which elimination would be less "shocking," Phil or LaKisha?

Or is all this talk just a ruse to lull us into thinking it's going to be a ho-hum elimination, and a shocker will come out of nowhere to surprise us? With those Idol folks ya never know!

If that is the case that Chris & Phil are going home. Then it signals to me that the vote was tampered with to suit the producers of the show!

There is no way that Phil with his 2 strong performances received fewer votes than Lakisha or Jordin.

As bad as Jordin was last night, I find it hard to believe that anyone would have voted for her, with the exception of the judges and the producers who want a young Idol.

Problem is: Phil never had much of a fanbase. He's hard to feel strongly about -- even with a decent voice.

And... his freakish appearance is a turn-off for many who can't even look at him without cringing.

People are voting for THEIR favorites -- no tampering necessary to see Chris and Phil voted off.

Then you clearly don't know how American Idol works. Jordin's fan base is so strong, plus the votes are carried forward from last week where she was the highest vote getter. Phil has always been lagging in popularity. I'm tired of people screaming the show is rigged each time their personal favourites don't get across.
