Katharine McPhee Gets Silver Screen Treatment

Following the finale of American Idol 5 there was talk that Katharine McPhee had taken a meeting with Steven Spielberg to discuss potential film roles. While nothing seems to have materialized from those talks, it looks like Katharine is going to make it onto the big screen after all.

The New York Post reports that the music video for Katharine's first single, "Over It," will be shown on approximately 5,000 screens beginning March 23 as part of Screenvision's pre-movie show designed to integrate new music artists into the filmgoing experience.

The news of increased exposure could not have come at a better time for Katharine, whose album sales have been significantly slower than her former Idol competitors Chris Daughtry and Taylor Hicks. Debuting at #2 on the Billboard charts in January with 116K units sold, the self-titled album seems to have stalled out a bit, no longer appearing on Billboard's Top 40 Album Sales chart. With cumulative sales so far at about 235K (compared to 1.8 million for Daughtry and 650K for Hicks), she is also significantly behind sixth place finisher Kellie Pickler, whose "Small Town Girl" has sold approximately 455K copies. "Over It" is, as of today, #29 on the Top 40 radio chart, the only chart on which it currently appears.

Kat's album has not been released in the asian markets..I'm very very sure her sales charts would skyrocket once her fans in asia get to buy her cds in the local cd stores.
