CBS Releases a Statement About Amber's Anti-Semitic Comments

For the last 24 hours the internet (and some mainstream media outlets) have been buzzing about anti-semitic comments made by Big Brother contestant Amber.

In a conversation with fellow houseguest Jameka, Amber said that her mom and sister taught her that Jews can be identifed based on "their last name" and "by their nose." She continued "The majority of people I know from New York are Jewish, and the majority of Jewish people I know, my gosh, so many are so selfish, so weird." For good measure she added the charming comment "My sister and my mom will meet someone, and I'll be like, 'I don't like that person. That person doesn't seem like a very good person to me,' and my mom and sister are like, 'You know why?' Why? 'They're Jewish.' "How do you know? 'Amber you can tell by their last name. You can tell by their nose.' I'm like, 'Really?' "

Well, CBS apparently found the uproar surrounding these comments worthy of mention, and as such have released the following statement:

"BIG BROTHER is a reality show about watching a group of people who have no privacy 24/7 - and seeing every moment of their lives. At times, the Houseguests reveal prejudices and other beliefs that we do not condone. We certainly find the statements made by Amber Siyavus on the live Internet feed to be offensive and they will not be part of any future broadcast on the CBS Television Network. Any views or opinions expressed in personal commentary by a Houseguest appearing on BIG BROTHER 8, either on any live feed from the House or the broadcast, are those of the individual(s) speaking and do not represent the views or opinions of CBS or the producers of the program."

What are your thoughts on this? Has CBS sufficiently covered their ass? Have you completely lost respect for Amber?

I never had respect for Amber in the first place. SHe's just a big blubbering baby and she should get removed from the house.

I am in no way saying what Amber said was right - in fact, it was horrible. But, there have been many disparaging remarks made about gay people by Dick and Daniele and I don't see an uproar over that! Also, how about Dick threatening to put his boot up Jen's a$$ and basically threatening her. None of these things should be tolerated. Gays and women are the new groups that it seems okay to make comments about and not suffer any consequences.

Makes no difference if CBS doesn't show the conversation or not...the damage is done. I can imagine what her family (especially her daughter) must be going through right now. I wouldn't be surprised if she gets fired from her job as well. Well, at least she has a legitimate excuse to cry 24/7/365 now!

I always thought Amber was a moron. Now we know her mother and sister are morons too!
How dare Amber say she never lied in the house. She was the first one to say that Nick was the person who voted for Kail. Then she was so upset because he was voted out? How dare she make judgments on an entire religion!

To answer the question about whether or not CBS handled this well enough...yes. Respect Amber?...don't know her...respect what she said...no. This is a game show people. To win they have to lie/deceive eachother at some point. If Big brother picked people to put in the house that were all totally honest (does that exist when it comes to survival?)and kind at all times to eachother, nobody would watch the show. A group of very different human beings from different walks of life with different belief systems have been thrown into a blender and are being watched 24/7...HOW WOULD YOU FAIR...remember this is television.

If you can kick them off for racist comments like that in the UK, then we should be able to get amber out of the house right now to protect her family. i can't imagine what her immediate family is experiencing right now.

Dick has said HORRIBLY foul and homophobic things to Dustin too. Does that mean CBS needs to apologize for that? Give me a break. Dick and Amber are the ones that have to look themselves in the mirror every day. That's punishment enough.

Yeah, I agree with the last post. Amber will get her punishment once she is on the outside of the house. I almsot feel sorry for her ignorant ***.
