America, What Are You Thinking? Alaina, Alex, Jason and Robbie Eliminated from American Idol

Ok, I am now officially worried about what this year's American Idol Top 12 is going to look like.

Sure, Jason Yeagar and Robbie Carrico were good choices to go (although I, personally, would have sent pretty boy Luke Menard packin'), but Alex Lushington and Alaina Whitaker? What?

True, neither gave a stellar performance last night, but there's no way either girl wouldn't be way better in the Idol long run than Kady Malloy or Kristy Lee Cook. In fact, I had started to believe that Alaina could do some real damage in this competition, and Alex was the closest thing the show had to an artist who could actually have some radio relevance. There was no way either was gonna win the competition, but the Top 12 will be weaker because of their absences.

And how heartbreaking was Alaina's reaction to her dismissal? Poor thing, I think she had taken Simon's words about her being a dark horse in the competition to heart.

As for the rest of the show -- well, there wasn't much else going on. (I'm choosing not to focus on that abysmal group sing -- 20 people is just way too much to have perform simultaneously). Oh yeah, there were the announcements that the Top 12 will be singing songs by the Beatles and that Ruben Studdard has recorded an exit song, and we got clips of last year's "Idol Gives Back" in anticipation of this year's reprise (which will apparently feature Brad Pitt, Mariah Carey, Snoop Dog, Carrie Underwood, Reese Witherspoon, Daughtry and more). 'Cause, ya know, Idol is generous and stuuuuuuuuuuuff.

Just not to Alaina, Alex, Jason and Robbie.

Hey author, you obviously have it in for Kristy Lee Cook. Sure I could understand how perhaps Kady should have gone before Alaina, but maybe enough of the public can tell that Kady also has potential. Between Alaina, Kady and Kristy, they were largely splitting votes anyway.

I thought - and knew - that Alexandrea was a shoo-in to go home. She was losing out in favor of Asia'h, Syesha and perhaps Ramiele in that voting demographic.

More than anyone, Amanda should be gone after 'gargling' her way through her strange performance. I did'nt anticipate her leaving because she's mainly sharing votes with the 'shreiking' Carly.

Lastly, author person. Kristy Lee Cook is much better than you give her credit for. She did a very good job this week after being very medicated while dealing with the flu the week before. Not easy circumstances for anyone. At least she did'nt 'fake it' like Syesha faked losing her voice during the Hollywood auditions.

Regarding the guys, Yeager was no surprise at all. Carrico was a slight bit surprising, but there is a lot of filler in the bottom half of the guys side and his slice of the pie just did'nt cut it.

I agree. The biker nurse and the Britney wannabe should have gone home. But, no doubt they'll be next on the chopping block.

Got a question tho. Any word on next weeks musical genre? 80's to continue the trend, or something altogether different?

I totally agree with you. Good call with the guys, girls...Kristy Lee Cook is cute but soooo boring definately would rather have seen her go than Alaina. More importantly though...was that Jessie from So You Think You Can Dance watching Robbie do his last Idol song???
