Curse of the SYTYCD Top 8: Will Gone in Shocking Elimination

The curse of the Top 8 has struck again -- Will Wingfield has been eliminated So You Think You Can Dance. Nooooooooooooooo!

Oh yeah -- Comfort went home too.

Many (including myself) had thought Will was as good a bet as any to win this thing. His grace, strength, confidence and versatility made him seem like the perfect package. Sure, his performances last night were not off-the-charts (I ranked him 5th out of the 8 contestants in my rankings of the Top 8 in large part because of his spirited but ultimately disappointing solo), but I did not think there was even a chance he was going home. In fact, in my elimination prediction, I said that even though I expected Will or Twitch to be in the Bottom 2, I thought it was a sure thing that Mark was going home.

So much for that -- Mark wasn't even in the Bottom 2!

Did I forget to mention that Comfort went home too?

As for the Curse of the Top 8 that I mentioned earlier, I'm thinking back to Season 2, when Allison, who, like Will, was thought by many to be a contender for the title, was unexpectedly sent packing. I'm also thinking of Season 3, when Lauren, like Mark, was thought by many to surely be eliminated, was kept, while fan favorite Sara was shown the door. Is the Top 8 jinxed?

Of course, it's possible there's no curse and it's just simply annoying that Will has been eliminated. Sure, there have been other surprise eliminations, like Season 1's Blake, but this one stings deep. Will will be missed -- the next two weeks won't be the same without him.

PS. Comfort went home too.

I am outraged, sad, depressed, shocked and mad all at the same time!!! Will was the BEST dancer period to be on the show - from any season. Tt's crazy!!! What happened? I will boycott the rest of the season. Unlike Blake, Will has the talent and the humility ~ a rare combination. He was strong, but graceful. Powerful, but with a quiet spirit. I will miss WILL!!!!!!

I was so mad when Will was elimiated last night - it should have been Mark. He should have went home last week as should Comfort have - thank goodness she's gone now!

I don't get it. I don't get it. I don't get it. I don't get it. R.I.P. Will. You were the main reason I was watching this season! COME ON KATEE OR CHELSIE!!!!

I am SHOCKED, SHOCKED. I didn't think I had to worry about Will - EVER. I thought he had it sewn up, and he SHOULD have, he is the best dancer EVER. I read another blogger's comments who said, please please just bring Will back and I swear I will vote and vote and vote....I feel exactly the same way. I hope he knows how much he'll be missed!!

WIll Was, STILL is the best. Just because he was ousted changes nothing of his talent, it changes our perspectives of the voting. He will indeed be missed and where there is a WILL there is a Way remember that!

MHO...the audience resented being manipulated. Will (who is legitimately a terrific dancer) was incessantly pimped by the judges and given advantages. Putting Mark with Comfort and then giving them a lame foxtrot was an obvious (to some) boot in the butt out the door. I love them all and would rather have seen two of the girls go than any of the guys, but this is what I think explains it.

So if Mark had gone this week, then next week it would have come down to Will, Twitch and Joshua, and again you all would have been agonizing. I agree with the person who wrote that the judges pimping Will eventually hurt him. I know I was sick of it, and even though Will was technically brilliant, he was far from my favorite dancer.
That is what this competition eventually boils down to.

I even liked Will's gimmicky solo! What a shocker...

Yep. it was the judges pimping will.

I voted for mark for 2 hours straight just because I was sick of the judges pimping will. in their eyes, he could do no wrong. it made me sick.

if mark made a tiny mistake he was critiqued to death. when he was awesome, it was commended, but nothing over-zealous.

s*ck it judges. s*ck it.

I totally agree that the judges pimping turned most voters off from Will. He is excellent but all the judges gushing to that point that they (Mia) even says that he is just carrying his partner and that he deserved a new one just made me stop voting for him so i won't have to hear the judges groveling. They seemed so bias especially because Will is Debbie Allen's prodigy.

I totally disagree with all the blaming on the judges. If that whole "pimping" theory is so true, why wasn't Katee ever at the bottom??? When all the judges always brag how wonderful she is to the point where Nigel said last week that he has never once seen a dance from her that he hasn't loved. Mary Murphy and the rest of the judges always say how beautiful, graceful and talented she is. In fact, she is the only dancer who has never received any criticism. Will received some bad press for his dance in the rumba fpr being too stiff and not grounded enough. So if your theory of pimping judges was correct, then WHY HAS KATEE NEVER BEEN AT THE BOTTOM? Face the facts, Will should have never been voted off, but where there is a WILL, there is a way! The show WILL never be the same again!

kimeika69 You are a genius!!!!!!!! That is so true, Katie never received a bad remark. The reason Will went home is because many people were jealous because they knew he was the favorite to win so they just voted for other people non-stop. Why would anyone be upset that the judges praised his talent, is it his fault they loved his dancing.

Amen jafrica87! So true! I'm happy that Joshua won, but truly when ever has SYTYCD ever, ever had someone grace the stage with Will's caliber if technique, finesse, strength and humilty...NEVER! It was a rough season watching him go down so early. It would have been such a joy seeing him dance in the finals. Oh well, he doesn't need them to advance his dance career and in the end it comes down to the money and Josh needed the money the most, so I'm happy! Cheers!

Having just finished watching the Top 8 episode and elimination decision in Australia (we are a couple of weeks behind), I have lost all faith in a show that has done so much for the dancing industry. Will's dancing is sheer poetry and the person I saw as being crowned ' America's Best Dancer'. Obviously America got it wrong as the show now has a void which none of the other dancers can fill. A very sad day indeed when neither of the bottom two male dancers should have been standing where they were... they should have both been in the finale. Will's dancing moved my wife and me. The remainder of the season will seem empty without his artisitic genuis and technical talent gracing the stage.
