Brtiney Spears Holds Kids Hostage and Is Rushed to Hospital
I mean, this is just too much.
Britney Spears apparently held her kids hostage last night, engaged in a four hour stand-off with police, and was then rushed to the hospital after being found under the influence of what the police are calling an "unknown" substance.
Insane!
Watch video "highlights" (if you can call them that) below.

Britney Spears' 16 Year Old Sister Jamie Lynn is Pregnant!
Oh. My. God.
I told myself I was over Britney Spears and the whole family, but this sucked me right back in.
Jamie Lynn Spears, the 16-year-old sister of beleagured (former) pop star Britney Spears, is pregnant with her 19-year-old boyfriend Casey Aldridge's child.
Wow.
In an interview with OK Magazine, she said, “It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected. I was in complete and total shock and so was he.”
Um, yeah. You're 16. I would think so.
Wonder what her employer Nickelodeon will have to say about this...

Tom Petty Will Headline Super Bowl Halftime Show
It's been announced that Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will headline this year's Super Bowl halftime show.
Boooooooooooooooring.
After Prince's triumph last year, couldn't they come up with a more inspired choice?
My favorite halftime show is still the star-studded extravaganza about six years ago, where Britney Spears (pre-Unfitney days), 'nsync, Nelly and more put on quite the show.
Now the only thing to look forward to on Super Bowl Sunday is the post-game episode of House.

Remembering Britney of Yesteryear
I came across a video of Britney Spears' 2000 VMA performance of "Oops...I Did it Again." Remember how hot this performance was? If not, watch the video now -- the girl was on fire.
Considering the events that have transpired in Ms. S' life in the last week or so, let's take a moment to remember how stellar a performer she once was.
Will she get back there again? Only time will tell...

Youtube Video: Tyra Banks Lays Into Britney Spears
My God, do I love youtube!
Where else could we get something like this video, which cuts together footage of Tyra Banks screaming her face off on one of the most famous episodes of America's Next Top Model, along with shots of Britney Spears during her Dateline NBC interview and her horrendous VMA performance this past weekend?
Genius!
Thanks to Krank Mills for bringing this to my attention!

Video of Britney Spears at the VMA's
So Britney opened the VMA's last night, "singing" her new song "Gimme More."
I say it was embarrassing -- what do you say??

Live Blogging: MTV's New and Improved VMA's are Not So Improved
9:40 This was the year that was supposed to bring MTV's Video Music Awards back to the entertaining, sometimes shocking occasion it used to be. Well, 40 minutes in, I'm not so impressed.
In fact, aside from Britney's embarrassing lip synching session, during which I was convinced MTV really had achieved a coup by bringing Anna Nicole Smith back from the dead, there hasn't yet been one full performance. I mean, Kanye West performed in a hotel suite or something, but what is that all about? How about a performance on the stage, or is that too traditional? I was enjoying the bit of Maroon 5, but the show went to commercial a minute into the song.
The presenters have been an eclectic bunch, with Fifty Cent and Kanye West continuing their at-this-point ridiculous "we hate each other publicity tour." As for the awards, the one notable surprise so far is Beyonce's victory for "Earthshaking Collaboration," over Justin/Timbaland, Gwen/Akon, and U2/Green Day. But what does a Moon Man mean, really?
9:50 Ok, it was pretty fun to watch Chris Brown dance like that, I must admit The kid definitiely has talent, and he's cute as all get-out. But could he have been anymore obviously lip synching? And that "duet" with Rihanna was hardly a duet -- they each performed their own song, and they met in the middle of the arena for a little dance move. Not exactly the "shocking duet" that was billed.
9:55 If they really wanted an earthshaking collaboration, couldn't they have gotten Heidi in on Hills presenting team? She's an MTV employee for god sake!
9:58 Of course Justin is the Male Entertainer of the Year -- duh. It was nice of him to give a little shout-out to Chris Brown and the "next generation" -- even though at 25 he's a bit young to be pulling the old pro card. Still, I am in support of all things JT.
10:06 It's amazing how much street cred Justin Timberlake has accumulated in the last few years. Six years ago he was performing with Lance Bass and Joey Fatone -- now he's jammin' with Fifty Cent. That's a bit of a difference.
10:08 Ferfie for Female Artist of the Year. Hmmmm. I love "Big Girls Don't Cry" as much as the next person, but really? Ok.
10:21 I have to admt, I'm not a huge Linkin Park devotee, but that performance rocked! Maybe the last half hour is where the real excitement come.
10:27 Fall Out Boy for Best Group? I know I've already declared the awards themselves irrelevant, but still...
10:37 I love Alicia Keys, and I can't wait to get her new CD, but I'm not really feeling her new song yet. Hopefully it'll grow on me, but it seems a little forced melodcally, and the lyrics are kinda ordinary. Loved the cover of George Michael's "Freedom," though. Wouldn't it have been awesome if he had shown up? Why didn't you make that happen, Timba-timba-timbaland?
10:48 Well that was a big hot mess. Jamie Foxx riffing on a Kid Rock/Tommy Lee fight (love it!), Jennifer Garner looking gorgeous but like she'd much rather be taking her daughter for a walk, both namedropping their upcoming movie, and then Garner announcing the winner as "Gym Class Fallout."
10:49 I can't handle that Miss Teen South Carolina just gave that speech. I literally threw up in my mouth.
10:59 Who is this big musical guest they keep teasing? I'm on pins and needles...
11:11 Wow, that was a letdown. Don't get me wrong, I always love seeing Justin, and Nellie is super-fly, but that was the performance we were all waiting for? It was more appropriate for a Timbaland tribute than the close of the VMA's. Ah well. Another one bites the dust.

Have You Heard Britney's New Song?
Have you heard "Gimme More," the new song from embattled pop princess Britney Spears?
If not, click here to give it a listen and let me know what you think.
Probably due at least in part to the curiousity factor, Perez Hilton is reporting that the song is already the #80 song in the country, despite only having been released for less than 24 hours.
Apparently the former Mrs. Federline will take to the stage next Sunday at MTV's Video Music Awards.
The Britney comeback is on!

Madonna and Justin Timberlake to Duet at the VMA's
MTV's Video Music Awards have always featured unconventional and/or surprising pairings, and many of those have included Madonna. Who can forget her liplocks with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera a few years ago?
Well, Madge is coming back to the VMA's, reports Entertainment Tonight, and this time she's bringing along the hottest guy in music -- Justin Timberlake. Apparently the two will be performing one of the tracks they have been working on for Madonna's upcoming album. I'm guessing Timbaland, who is "musically supervising" the evening, will also get in on the festivities.
Should be hot!

A Note From Britney
Britney Spears posted the following letter on her official website...thoughts? (Here's one to start us off...it looks like she figured out how to use spell-check!)
Dear Fans,
I just wanted to reach out to all of you and explain some of the things that I have been faced with recently.
It's so funny how many stories are put out there about people. It's like we all want our side of the story out there as well, but at the end of the day only a few people care to hear what is really going on since the bad is always so much more interesting than the truth. I don't know why, but this is so weird to me. I used to be angry at the tabloids for printing horrible things about me, but now I try to just be numb to what I see. I saw Tyra Banks once get really upset and cry on her show because they made her look fat. We all want a certain image of ourselves out there, and at some point we all do really care what other people think or we wouldn't be here.
Recently, I was sent to a very humbling place called rehab. I truly hit rock bottom. Till this day I don't think that it was alcohol or depression. I was like a bad kid running around with ADD. I had a manager from a long time ago come in and try to direct me and my life after I got my divorce. I was so overwhelmed I think that I was in a little shock too. I didn't know who to go to. I realized how much energy and love I had put into my past relationship when it was gone because I genuinely did not know what to do with myself, and it made me so sad. I confess, I was so lost.
This letter is to not place blame on anyone, although I do see the world with a completely different set of eyes now. Being in that vulnerable state and taken to dinners and parties with friends and finding out later you paid for everything was a huge learning lesson for me. I think the whole problem was letting too many people into my life. You never know another persons intentions or what another person wants. I feel I was too open and looking for answers when I had it all to begin with. I have had to cut so many people out of my life. It is so sad, because if anyone is a family person...it is me. When I was little I remember every night watching movies with my family and feeling so at peace. Dancing and singing all the time just like a little girl should. Now recently I find with my children that I want them to have that feeling all of the time. I am having to face a lot of things right now since I have children of my own. A lot of insecurities from when I was little are coming up again. It is like we are never good enough.
I know everyone thinks that I am playing the victim, but I am not and I hate what is going on right now so much. Maybe this is the reason for this letter...to maybe allow people to look at me differently. It is like when you are a real woman and say what you feel and how you think things are supposed to be, that people just say you are a "bitch."
I feel like some of the people in my life made more of some issues than was necessary. I also feel like they knew I was beginning to use my brain for a change and cut some ties, so they wanted to be in more control of my life than me. I think it is actually normal for a young girl to go out after a huge divorce. I think it was a bigger issue because I had not gone out in such a long time. I am 25 and I do still have a lot to learn, and I am going to make mistakes everyday, and I am sure every mistake I make will probably be on CNN or Good Morning America. I am only human people and I love you for still loving me.
I am sitting here at home and it is 6:25 and both of my sons are asleep. I am truly blessed to have them in my life. Everyday is so surreal. Life in general is so surreal and crazy.
I just hope this letter made some of you think a little bit more of me and where I am coming from. I just want the same things in life that you want...and that is to be happy. It is just so weird because everyone has their own perception of me and how they think I really am. It is so weird how stories are told. There is your side, my side, and the truth. Somebody has to figure it out. I guess we will never really understand or figure out life completely. That's God's job. I can't wait to meet him...or her.
Love, Britney
Quote of the month...
It is ok to disagree with people regarding certain issues. You're not being true to yourself if you succumb to others opinions because you feel guilty.

Person of the Day: Christina Aguilera
This was not a good weekend for young starlets. Lindsay Lohan was arrested on a DUI and found with cocaine in her car, and then passed out at a club less than 48 hours later. Mischa Barton was rushed to the hospital after mixing prescription medication with alcohol (or illegal mushrooms, depending on who you believe). The latest photos of Nicole Ritchie show that she is back to wasting away. And, lest we forget, Paris Hilton is heading to jail and Britney Spears has popped out two children in the last couple of years and still manages to find time to do non-stop club hopping, even after a stint in rehab.
Which brings me to today's Person of the Day -- Christina Aguilera. For awhile there it seemed like Xtina was the problem child, what with songs like "Dirrrty" and her penchant for wearing chaps and other revealing clothing. But whaddaya know? Ms. A is riding high, while her contemporaries are scraping the bottom of the barrel.
While her most recent album "Back to Basics" has not been the bona fide success her earlier "Stripped" was, Christina has still had several hit singles ("Ain't No Other Man," "Hurt," and "Candyman") and found time to set off on a very successful national tour. I saw the lady perform at Madison Square Garden in NYC a couple of months ago, and she puts as much energy into her live performance as Lindsay and Mischa do while getting their drink-on on a Saturday (or, let's face it, Monday) night. This is the second time I have seen Christina in concert, and I must say she puts on one of the best shows of anyone I've seen.
Christina seems to have found true happiness in her life, courtesy of husband Jordan Bratman, and that support seems to have provided her with a grounding force that these other girls are apparently lacking. I'm not just talking about her more ladylike apparel -- I loved Christina when she was dirrrrrty, and I love her now that she is cleeeeeean. She just seems relaxed and happy with who she is, and that is a pleasure to see.
Who would have thought Christina would end up being the good role model?
Congrats, Christina, on being today's Idol Thoughts Person of the Day.

American Idol Finale Buzz: Will Britney Be There?
Perezhilton.com is reporting that a rumor is circulating that Britney Spears will be performing on this week's American Idol finale. Could it be true? I mean, the president deigned it a worthy platform to try and redeem his public image a few weeks back by appearing on the show, why wouldn't Britney use the same platform to announce to the world that she is back and better than ever?
I'll believe it when I see it. But, lest we forget, last year at this time there were rumblings about Prince -- and look who showed up in the final moments of Season 5. If Britney does decide to lip synch and dance for the country it would be quite the watercooler moment, that's for sure.
All of this talk gets me thinking -- what surprises are in store for us this week? Last year, in addition to Pince, we got Chris Daughtry and Live duetting on "Mystery" (a track that has gotten many a spin on my ipod), Meat Loaf and Katharine McPhee doing a totally bizarre duet of Celine Dion's "All Coming Back to Me," Mary J. Blige nearly eating Elliott Yamin for lunch singing U2's "One," and Toni Braxton sexin' it up with Taylor Hicks on "In the Ghetto." How can they possibly top that?
I've heard that both Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood will be returning to the Idol stage, and I would imagine Taylor Hicks and even Katharine McPhee or Chris Daughtry might make appearances. I've also heard an unsubstantiated rumor that Jordin Sparks will be performing with the Dreamgirls. Although I'm skeptical Beyone would show up, Jennifer Hudson does have an album with Clive Davis coming out later this year.
Will there be exciting duet partners this year? A Melinda/Gladys Knight duet would be fierce, and whipping out Jennifer Holliday to sing with LaKisha would bring the house down. And how entertaining does a J-Lo/Sanjaya pairing sound? The possbilities are endless!
Stay tuned to Idol Thoughts for more news on the finale as it trickles in. Remember, even after American Idol comes to an end, there will continue to be updates on former Idol contestants (including this year's crew), along with recaps and commentary on summer shows "So You Think You Can Dance," "On the Lot," "Top Chef," "Big Brother," "Pirate Queen" and more (see Summer TV) So bookmark Idol Thoughts now!
