Despite some pretty rough reviews,
Golden Compass managed to top the box office this past weekend, bring in $26.1 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
Enchanted was a repeat #2, with $10.7 million, followed by
This Christmas ($5 million),
Fred Claus ($4.6 million) and
Beowulf ($4.4 million).
In limited release news,
Atonement wracked up $817K on 32 screens. while
Juno did boffo business at just 7 screens, bring in $531K for a per-screen average of $60K. Wow! Word of mouth is great on this one -- I've got two friends who saw it this weekend, and both loved it.
Overall, a pretty weak showing. Here's hoping the Christmas releases spark it up a little.
